I have developed an interest and passion working with individuals on being more effective in their relationships and healing deep emotional pain, such as trauma, anxiety and depression. In individual therapy, I use a powerful brain/body based method called Brainspotting to help people release trauma, ease emotional distress and unleash creativity and mental focus!
I also have a passion for meditation and mindfulness practices and like to teach clients these skills as well as support a regular meditation practice.
I have a special interest in working with clients of color, LGBTQ and individuals in interracial/cultural relationships.
Over the years, I've learned a great deal about what makes therapy effective. My clients are my best teachers and I've certainly been humbled by all I still don't know. But here's what I've learned about therapy:
I attended Colorado College and earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I earned a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology/Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of Colorado at Denver and have several hours of post-graduate training in working with trauma, anxiety and depression. I have been trained in brain-body based methods such as the Hakomi Method and Integrated Body Therapy. Most recently I have become a Certified Brainspotting Therapist.
"Karen is a truly gifted counselor, and she has impacted my life in a most blessed way. Karen truly listens to you, and she connects with you in a way that I have never experienced with other counselors. She has taught me so much about myself, and helped me learn to identify and shift my destructive patterns and, more importantly, begin to learn compassion for myself. Because of Karen, my eyes are opened up to a whole new world around me; and I am truly happy."
"I am no longer afraid of seeing a counselor. You have made this a great experience and helped us save our relationship!"
"Karen has helped us both work on personal growth and increase communication and conflict management skills..."
